Add Data AI Search to Windsurf

Windsurf's Cascade agent connects to the remote MCP servers listed in mcp_config.json. Add Data AI Search with a serverUrl and Cascade can read your AI search data and work through the Website Audit's fixes in your code.

Setup01

Connect Windsurf to Data AI Search

  1. 1

    Copy your server URL

    Sign in to the Data AI Search dashboard, open Integrations → MCP and copy the server URL. Your API key is already in it.

  2. 2

    Add it to mcp_config.json

    In the Cascade panel, open the MCP menu and choose to view or edit the raw config. That opens mcp_config.json (long kept at ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json on macOS and Linux). Add the intura entry with serverUrl, as below, and save.

    mcp_config.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "intura": {
          "serverUrl": "https://api.dataaisearch.com/mcp?api_key=YOUR_API_KEY"
        }
      }
    }
  3. 3

    Refresh and check

    Refresh the MCP list in Cascade. intura should appear with its three tools, and you can switch individual tools off there.

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your own key, or copy the full URL from Integrations → MCP in the Data AI Search dashboard, where it is already filled in. The URL is the key: anyone who has it can read your workspace and spend its credits.

What it can reach02

What Windsurf can do with your data

The server has three tools, one per pillar. Each takes a brand name; ask about a brand the workspace doesn't have and the tool replies with the names it does have.

  • brand_insights

    Read-only. The real questions your brand's buyers ask AI, how AI answers them, who it names instead of you, keywords and segments.

    Tool reference
  • ai_visibility_audit

    Read the Visibility Score, prompts, clusters and next actions, or set the audit up, add questions and run them.

    Tool reference
  • website_audit

    Read the site audit, root causes, weakest pages and action list, or start, refresh, re-run and re-check a page.

    Tool reference
Try these first
  • “Use Data AI Search: what's the biggest Website Audit problem on [brand]'s site, and where is it in this code?”
  • “Which questions do [brand]'s buyers ask AI that no page on our site answers?”
  • “List [brand]'s open high-priority Website Audit actions.”
  • “Summarise [brand]'s latest AI Visibility report in five lines.”
Good to know03

Before you rely on it

  • Remote servers take serverUrl, not url or command. Windsurf picks the transport itself.
  • One JSON error makes Windsurf skip the whole file. If intura doesn't appear, look for a trailing comma.
  • The file lives in your home folder, not in the project, so the key stays out of your repositories.
  • Keep manual approval on for the audit tools, which can start runs that spend credits.
If it doesn't connect
intura doesn't appear after saving
Refresh the MCP list or restart Windsurf, and check that the JSON is valid.
Remote MCP servers are turned off
On Teams and Enterprise plans, an admin has to allow remote MCP servers.
"MCP integrations aren't available on your plan"
The workspace is on the Free plan. Upgrade to Starter or higher.
FAQ04

Windsurf and Data AI Search: questions

Can I keep the key out of the file?

Windsurf can read values from environment variables with ${env:NAME}. Put the full URL in a variable such as INTURA_MCP_URL and set "serverUrl": "${env:INTURA_MCP_URL}".

Do I need a local process?

No. Data AI Search is a remote server over Streamable HTTP; Windsurf connects to the URL directly.

What does it cost?

1 credit per call from your Data AI Search workspace. Setting up or running AI Visibility prompts and starting a Website Audit cost what they cost in the dashboard.
